Trust Starts in the Details

Patrick Young
Senior Project Manager

Patrick Young doesn’t talk about leadership in abstract terms. He shows it by building teams, managing details and earning trust through consistency. With nearly 20 years of experience in engineering and construction management, he’s become a trusted resource at Atlas for leading construction quality management efforts on complex, high-impact projects across the West Region.

As the Oregon business lead and senior project manager, Patrick helps guide contract performance, mentor cross-regional teams and strengthen delivery systems that keep projects running efficiently. He brings clarity to complexity, alignment to teams, and purpose to every stage of a project.

A Mindset That Scales

Patrick’s approach to quality is calm, structured and built to hold steady even in the most complex environments.

For example, Patrick leads construction quality oversight for one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Pacific Northwest. With a billion-dollar Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) contract and a broad technical scope, the project demands close coordination, consistent inspections and strict alignment with contract requirements. Patrick helps guide inspections across grading, concrete, coatings, pipeline, electrical and mechanical systems.

“When the pressure’s on, I go back to the fundamentals: preparation, clear communication, and sticking to the contract. I’ve learned that assumptions are where projects start to drift. If someone says, ‘This is how we did it last time,’ I’ll ask, ‘What do the specs say?’ That simple question keeps us grounded in what’s required, not what’s familiar.”

He also believes in asking questions that build shared understanding.

I’ll say, ‘Walk me through your thinking.’ It’s not about second-guessing but about building clarity. It helps people take ownership and reminds us we’re all working from the same playbook.”

He focuses on clarity upfront rather than relying on course correction after issues arise. His goal is to keep teams confident in their decisions by asking the right questions early and creating a structure that supports long-term accountability.

Keeping Teams Aligned

Patrick’s leadership extends far beyond any one job site. Since 2016, he has helped lead Atlas’ Central Federal Lands Highway Division contract, managing construction work across 14 states. That experience has shaped how he keeps teams connected, supported and aligned, even when they’re spread across different time zones.

“Intentional communication and clear expectations are critical. We’ve built systems to track lessons learned and keep everyone aligned. Strong performance follows when you invest in people and give them the tools to succeed.”

From building shared file systems and tracking protocols to mentoring early-career staff, Patrick focuses on what helps teams reduce friction and increase focus. His leadership style balances technical precision with human connection, helping others grow while getting the work done right.

Grounded in Purpose

Patrick brings the same level of purpose to his work that he brings to his community.

Outside of Atlas, he’s actively involved through fitness and service. He helps organize events at his local gym and participates in fundraising drives for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) awareness. For Patrick, staying engaged is a reminder of who infrastructure is built for.

“Our work affects real people — how they travel, access to clean water, and feel safe. Engaging with your community keeps you grounded and reminds you why the work matters.”

That mindset carries over into how he leads project teams with a focus on long-term impact and infrastructure that communities rely on for generations.

A Legacy of Accountability and Growth

Patrick’s legacy is one of consistency, collaboration and quiet strength. Over the years, he’s helped teams deliver complex work with clarity, raised internal standards and created space for others to lead.

“I want to be remembered as someone who built teams that delivered excellence and helped others grow while doing it. Professionally, I hope my projects stand as examples of quality and collaboration. Personally, I hope I’ve passed on a mindset of accountability, curiosity and purpose to the next generation of engineers and leaders.”

That kind of leadership shapes how teams operate, how challenges are approached and how quality carries forward from project to project and person to person.
