Maghsoud Tahmoressi, PE, has over 30 years in the transportation industry. Following completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin in 1983, he pursued graduate study in pavement materials and soils stabilization at the University of Texas at Austin and completed his Masters of Science degree in 1985. He joined the Center for Transportation Research in 1985 where he acquired an extensive background in asphalt pavement materials.
In 1991 he joined the Bituminous Section of the Materials and Tests Division of Texas Department of Transportation. After serving as a Senior Materials Engineer, he was promoted to the position of Supervising Materials Engineer in charge of the Bituminous Headquarters Laboratory. In this position, Maghsoud was responsible for managing the personnel and operations of the laboratory in addition to providing construction trouble shooting and support to TxDOT districts. He was promoted to Bituminous Section Director. In this capacity he had oversight responsibility for all bituminous related test methods and specifications used by TxDOT.
Maghsoud left TxDOT in March of 2000 to form PaveTex. He currently serves as the President of PaveTex. He has helped PaveTex grow to be known as the premier Construction Materials Testing Laboratory as well as a leading Construction Management firm with 11 offices and laboratories in Texas.
Maghsoud is very active in research related to hot mix. He is past chairman of Transportation Research Board committee on “Construction and Rehabilitation of Flexible Pavements.” He is also chairman and Panel member of several NCHRP projects. Maghsoud has authored or co-authored over 50 publications regarding asphalt pavements.
